Actor Anoop Menon took some time of his schedule for a long chat regarding Kerala Cafe and movies in the Malayalam industry in general.This is what he had to say.” Keralacafe from more than being a movie which is different for the movie makers is a movie made where the viewers want to see something which is different. This film is an answer to our prayers to see something different. Commercial movie makers have had the chance to approach movie making in a different light.”
“Director Anwar Rasheed who is a commercial movie maker received rave reviews for his project Bridge at the film festival in Dubai which underlines the fact that everyone can make good movies not just commercial movies but the audience, the viewers should be forthcoming in watching such good movies. We always lament why are we not getting something like Subramniyampuram and the likes but the question is are we willing to watch if something good comes along and I think Kerala Cafe would give an answer to such a thought.”
“Ten different directors havecome together under one abnner to do something diefferent which they always wanted to do and now the onus is on the viewrs to go and support such an initiative. We see many great movies from diferent languages but I always wonder why are we not having any such in movies in malaaylam . the fact there isn’t much scope for such movies here. Movie depends upon success and thats why movies like Duplicate and Puthiyamugham wins .”
“My role in Kerala cafe is limited. I was to do a full lenght film with director Uday Ananthan but the story was similar to another movie so i ended up doing just the introductry part in Mrityunjayam. Lot of new ideas and concepts are flying around and the younger crop of actors should get involved for more such movies for the love of good movies. We should be more content oriented than star oriented. I did a a tiny role in Loudspeaker whcih many people found it unnecessary but I did that cause it was meaningful and I did it for what it had to offer me. I did not mind the duration of the role but the scope it offered even it was for a short duration.”
“We should emualte Hollywood actors where they are ready to roles which are meaningful and are not afraid of image or whatever, provided it offers ample scope for acting. Many directors are ready to work new movies which are different but its upto the audience and producers to lap it up. The movie could be challenging for the directors but from an actors point of view it doesnt matter because to convey a mesage an actor doesnt even need a minute.”
“Good movies are being produced everywhere ,it was in Malayalam so the audience should welcome movies like Kerala cafe should encourage it so that we as viewers get to enjoy more such films in the coming years.”
